• Mindfulness meditation enables us to become aware of our habits of thinking and reacting and eventually to be able to make wholesome changes towards a less stressful life. You can start mindfulness practice where you are, and arrive at a place of more awareness, self-understanding, and freedom.
Mindfulness practice is taught by means of guided meditation exercises, silent meditation periods, talks, discussion, poetry and song, focusing on a different aspect of the practice each week.
• The programs at the MMC are informed and inspired by the example and teachings of the Zen and Vipassana Master Thich Nhat Hanh, as well as by the research of Jon Kabat-Zinn.

Orientation: Growth and Healing

Mindfulness aims to bring our accumulated wisdom, knowledge and insights to bear upon the present moment and every moment.

Mindfulness practice has proved to be useful in counseling, education, therapy, and the creative arts. Countless people have used it successfully to lead happier and more productive lives, to improve the quality of their relationships, and to deal with the stresses of modern living. The practice of moment to moment awareness, attention to ordinary tasks, and seeing poetry in everyday events is conducive to transformation and healing.
As we grow in awareness, different vistas open up, and mindfulness lights up more areas of our life.
This dynamic aspect of the practice is stressed at MMC where every session is different, and the excitement of self-discovery is always present.

Activities

MMC has been in continuous operation for the last 15 years. During this time, Joseph Emet has taught mindfulness skills to a few thousand people in ongoing groups, one day seminars, educational, business, and hospital related settings, and in private coaching sessions.
12-week group sessions are offered twice a year, starting in September and in January. Private sessions are available during the month of June.

Joseph Emet founded the centre, and presently guides its activities.
He has received the Lamp Transmission as a Dharma Teacher on January 15, 2003 from Thich Nhat Hanh.
He has been a Fulbright Scholar, holds a Doctorate from Boston University, and is certified in Reality Therapy counseling. He is the author of A Basket of Plums, a boxed set with two CD's of Mindfulness Songs published by Parallax Press (with a foreword by Thich Nhat Hanh). His book Sleep Better with Mindfulness Meditation is being published by Penguin Books.
